Common Faults and Solutions for Air-Cooled Engines 5

Low oil pressure

Solution

The engine oil level is below the technical specification

Check the oil level, verify the dipstick is calibrated and the capacity of the oil pan. Add oil to the system according to specification.

Oil level or oil pressure sensor is damaged

Replace the oil level or oil pressure sensor.

Oil filter clogged

Replace the filter.

Fuel or coolant in the oil

Refer to the high oil level fault table.

Improper adjustment of the regulator or pressure reducing valve

Adjust regulator or pressure reducing valve.

Oil pan filter is clogged

Clean the filter.

Oil suction pipe damaged

Repair or replace the oil suction pipe.

Oil pump damage

Replace the oil pump.

The main bearing or connecting rod bearing is worn or damaged

Replace the main bearing and connecting rod bearing.

 

 

 

Oil level rising

Solution

The seal of the auxiliary pump at the power take-off port is damaged

Replace the auxiliary pump.

The seal sleeve of the injector installation hole is damaged

Replace the injector mounting hole sealing sleeve.

Injector leaking in cylinder head

Replace the fuel injector.

Fuel injection pump seal leakage

Remove and repair the fuel injection pump.

Cylinder head or cylinder head gasket is cracked or damaged

Replace cylinder head or gasket.

There are cracks or sand holes in the cylinder

Replace the cylinder.

 

 

The coolant temperature exceeds the normal temperature

fault cause

Solution

Coolant level is below specification

Check for coolant leaks outside the engine and radiator.

Fan belt slipping or fan pulley wear

Replace fan belt or pulley.

Water temperature gauge malfunction

Replace the water temperature gauge.

Water temperature sensor failure

Replace the sensor.

The water temperature gauge and water temperature sensor do not match

Confirm that the meter and sensor are VDO and that the ranges are consistent.

Radiator fins are blocked or squeezed out of shape

Clean, repair or replace radiator.

Radiator core clogged

Clean and repair radiator.

Thermostat is faulty and will not open

Replace thermostat.

Water pump damage

Replace the water pump.

Cylinder head or cylinder head gasket is cracked or damaged

Replace cylinder head or gasket.
